Battered Fish Recipe


If you really enjoy fish and chips, you can easily
make this meal at home. Although you can use several varieties of
fish, the best one is cod. While most recipes for batter for fried
food call for eggs, you should not use eggs in a batter for fish. Eggs
tend to make the batter soggy and almost like a cake.

The best recipe for battered fish is one called the Baking Powder Batter.

Ingredients:
1 cup of flour
1 tablespoon of baking powder
A sprinkle of salt
Water to mix the batter


Sift the flour, salt and baking powder to make sure all three are
evenly distributed in the mixture. Add only enough water to make a
consistent, thin batter. If the batter is too thick, it will take
longer to brown and cause the fish to become dry. Dip each portion of
fish into the batter and then into hot oil to deep fry.

There are different recipes for battered fish that many people prefer
depending on their taste. You can replace the water with ale to have
great tasting deep fried fish.

If you want to have pan fried fish you will also need to use a batter
to keep the fish from sticking to the pan. This batter consists of
flour and salt. You don't use water because it is a dry batter. Pour
some flour onto a plate and liberally sprinkle it with salt. You can
use seasoning salt if you wish. Roll each piece of fish in the flour
and then lay it in the hot oil in the pan. The oil must be hot of the
fish will stick. Wait for about five minutes before you turn over each
piece of fish to make sure it is browned on both sides.
